Use Toilet! & Get Money!!

First ECCT in the world:

The ECCT in Saliyar street has become the first toilet in the world for adopting a new advocacy and IEC approach. Pay and use toilet is the norm all over the world. But in the Saliyar Street a gift was made to the users of the ECCT. All users were to be paid 10 Paise per use of the toilet on a monthly basis. The mind boggling system was to impress on the users the general public and sanitation experts that human waste was a rich wealth of nutrients worthy to be paid for. Every member of every family was given a user card.

The number of users of the toilet has gone up by 90 per day with the introduction of the scheme and daily about 200 persons are using the toilet.Pay and use got money:photograph and write up already available.
Insert. Pongal gift for ECCTusers: getpaid for using toilet.

Report of First Urban Ecosaan Workshop in India in Trichy

Inaugurating the workshop Dr. M. Ponnavaikko, Vice Chancellor of Bharathidasan University, said rapid urbanisation and the attendant environment degradation, and increasing water scarcity should make urban planners look for sustainable systems, which can meet the requirements of the rising population. It is time ecological sanitation (Ecosan) technologies that offer a range of options for improving urban sanitation were promoted in a big way.
