Utilisation of human
urine as liquid organic manure in banana cultivation
(By National Research Center for Banana and SCOPE, Trichy)
Trichy based National Research Centre for Banana in collaboration
with SCOPE organization found that application of 50 liters of
human urine (1:10) – urine : Water) with 75% RDK (Recommended
dose of potassium) per plant could record increased Poovan banana
yield (23.9kg) by 13.8% over normal Poovan banana yield (21 kg
ie.., without urine), supplement 100% RDN (Recommended dos of
Nitrogen), 100% RDP (Recommended dose of phosphorus) and 25% RDK,
and accrue an additional net profit of Rs. 45, 175/- per hectare
in Poovan banana cultivation. Out of the above additional net
profit, Rs. 36, 250/- is due to increased bunch weight and Rs.
8,925/- is due to saving in 100% N and P fertilizers and 25% K
fertilizers in Poovan banana cultivation. It was worked out that
if human urine is used as liquid organic manure in India for banana
cultivate about Rs. 445 crores may be saved in cost of fertilizers,
annually.
